PixelPirate GC-02 Open Source DIY Electronics Kit

PixelPirate GC-02 Open Source DIY Electronics Kit

Somehow, we ended up in the gaming world. Our first console, Cosmo GC-1.1, kind of pulled us in, and before we knew it, we were already working on the next project: Pixel Pirate GC-02.

This is our first working prototype, a retro gaming console emulator where you can play the classics from the 90s and early 2000s. It’s built on an ESP32, but honestly, running both the emulator and the games pushes it to its limits. If we want this project to be more convenient and smoother, we’ll probably need to move to a more powerful controller, maybe one of the Chinese OEM platforms that are surprisingly powerful and flexible.

PixelPirate was meant as an open-source, DIY project for people who like to tinker, modify, and make things their own. The components are all SMD accept some switches and LCD, and the case is 3D-printed, so anyone can print their own version, customize it, or give it a totally new look.

The crazy part? We managed to develop and prototype this in just two weeks. For us, that’s a record. And it paid off, PixelPirate quickly became a little ambassador for what we do, grabbing attention at meetups like YugoMK 2025 in Belgrade and DigiTalk in Niš. People were genuinely curious about it.

We will keep you posted about it, and there is going to be a detailed video on our YouTube channel on this topic and build.
